Which law of succession is applicable?

Question: The testator is a German citizen, but died abroad. Which law of succession is applicable?

Answer: This depends on the state in which the decedent was habitually resident at the time of his death. In addition, it must be examined whether the decedent made a choice of law and whether this is effective. For more information, see our article on applicable law under the European Succession Regulation.
