Do I have a right to a compulsory portion?

Question: Foreign inheritance law applies. Do I have a right to a compulsory portion?

AnswerThe question cannot be answered universally. However, there are only a few countries that do not recognise a right to a compulsory portion. These include the Anglo-American legal system. In many European countries, the right to a compulsory portion is even more extensive than in Germany. Here, a beneficiary only has a monetary claim. In Spain, for example, they are forced heirs and can dispose of the estate.

Further information can be found in our respective Country reports. We would also be happy to advise you in a personal meeting.
